Merit Badge Counselor Renewal

Introduction

GGAC is changing the registration period for Merit Badge Counselors; it will be January 1 – December 31.

  • This renewal request  applies to many but not all registered MBCs.  Those who registered after Jan1, 2022 do not need to continue with this renewal process. Those who were registered before January 1, 2022 and whose registration expiration is June 30, 2022 MUST complete this registration process if they wish to continue as a MBC –  it will continue your registration through December 31, 2022.
    We will update this page later to reflect any changes affecting 2023 registration.
  • All MBCs will need to register for the next calendar year (January 1 – December 31, 2023) and annually thereafter if you choose to continue as a MBC.
  • All MBCs MUST have a YPT certificate that is valid for the whole period of their registration as well as an AB 506 certificate and a GGAC LiveScan.

Preparation

Before you dive into the form below, we recommend you do the following:

  • Check out this video MBC Tutorial if you need help navigating the MB section in Scoutbook
  • Login to your Scoutbook account and select My Profile from the Menu list
    Make a note of your Member number. The renewal form will ask for it.
  • Next, select My Positions from the Menu and verify the Merit badges for which you are registered. If you need to make changes, use this Merit Badge Update form.
  • The Council Advancement Committee has chosen to limit to eight (8) the number of Merit Badges for which a counselor may be registered. If you are registered currently for more than eight, please go HERE and choose which ones to keep.
  • Login to My.Scouting. From the menu select My Profile. Check the expiration date of your MBC registration. If it shows 12/31/2022, you do not need to complete a renewal form now. 
  • You may make changes to your list of Merit Badges HERE 
  • Special documentation regarding qualifications and certification’s are needed to counsel Rifle Shooting, Shotgun Shooting, Archery, Climbing, Canoeing, Kayaking, Lifesaving, Rowing, Scuba Diving, Swimming, Water Sports, Whitewater, Lifesaving or Scuba Diving. Please submit it HERE. Current documentation must be on file to continue counseling these merit badges.
  • Note: if your profile does not show Trained next to your MBC registration, enroll in online training to better serve our Scouts.
  • If you have any problems or questions, please email HELP 
  • Selecting “I wish to continue as a MBC” opens up the next section of the form.
  • Selecting “I no longer wish to be a MBC” will result in your name being taken off the list of registered MBCs. No further action required.
